Scraping Watercolor in a Landscape - Advanced

How to Scrape Watercolor Rocks, Trees, and Mountains

Scraping Watercolor - A Quick and Effective Technique for Rocks, Trees and Mountains

Advanced

This is an advanced course - working step by step to paint and scrape an entire landscape. Step by step, a landscape is doable and goes smoothly.

First we scrape the mountains, going right over the big tree in the front. Once you're happy with your mountains, you'll add a green foreground with salt texture and a loose sky. Next comes the distant trees, with tips on best colors and brushstrokes for them, plus a little scratching out. Last you'll lift out the tree shape to paint and scrape the foreground tree, rocks and grasses.

This lesson teaches lots of watercolor shortcuts to great landscapes - scraping, salt, scratching bark texture, distant trees and grasses, plus lifting instead of painting around.

Learning how to scrape takes practice, and this lesson is excellent guided practice for students who are already familiar with the basics of scraping.

Hi, I'm Deb Watson - a self taught artist and long time watercolor teacher

My story is simple.

I loved drawing from childhood, but was discouraged from art as a waste of time. So, I became a nurse, worked at a lot of hospitals and raised a family. But I kept painting.

Over time, I became better at the realism I loved, and just kept working toward improving through painting and self-study. I've always enjoyed painting scenes from my life and small town community (which I call my Small Town America series).

My paintings are not usually famous or majestic subjects, often they're just everyday stuff I see around. But I see so much beauty there, and show it to the rest of the world by painting it.

Now, my watercolors have been in exhibits and won awards across the nation. Yet, it's when my art connects me to other people that it's really done what I wanted, and teaching certainly does that!

Happy Painting.
